Spring Cleaning – Don’t forget your bedding

Spring is officially here and like many other people I have spent my weekend 'Spring cleaning'. Traditionally March is a great time for Spring cleaning it's warm enough to open doors and windows but not yet warm enough for insects to be a problem.

Freshening up your home is beneficial in many ways. Yes it might take up your whole weekend, but how satisfying is it once your home is clean! I love cleaning, but just in case you don't share the same obsessive love I have for my Dyson there are plenty of guides online on how to get the job done. My favorite is the 'How to Spring Clean the Green Way'.

Cleaning visible dirt and dust is easy to clean. But what about all the dirt you can't see? Be sure to double check filters, wipe down vents and check your gutters. With the house sorted, now lets focus on your bed. If you haven't changed your duvet or pillows in the last 5 years, you might want to look away now. Depending on the age of your pillows and duvet, over 50% of its weight may be comprised of dead skin, mold, mildew, fungus, dust mites and dust mite feces. If you sleep with a silk filled duvet you don't need to worry about the 'extra weight'. Mulberry silk is immune and inhospitable to all of the above, unlike down and synthetic filled duvets which like to collect all the nasty stuff and irritate allergies while there are at it. So to complete your Spring cleaning, think about replacing or at the least cleaning your bedding and if you already have a silk filled duvet, then you can have a nap once you've take the garbage out.

We'll talk about pillows next week.
